SILEK SABUANG EVENT

Silek sabuang is a festival that celebrated by Lubuk sikaping society at the beginning of Ramadhan. It is held one day before the first day of fasting Ramadhan. It is a kind of big celebration of people there, they realy can not stand for waiting this moment. It is a grateful day to forgive each others.
The ceremony is started by a parade of some custom leaders ( datuak, mamak, bundo kanduang, etc ). It is also followed by teenagers who dress up with traditional costums. For the Bundo kanduang and Puti they carry a kind of liquid which commonly know well as aia limau (it’s consist of some kind of flowers) They are divided on two groups, one from the north and another one from the south, later they will deal in front of the mosque to continue with traditional self defens art performance that usualy called by Silek Sabuang
After that, they come into prime ceremony, that is commonly called by “balimau”. This activity take place in front of the mosque. The participants of it not only the people who have already performed the parade, but also all of the viewer who come to see the ceremony there. It is begun with welcoming speech by one of the custom leaders, and then will be followed by the Regent of Pasaman. After that they splash the liquid which is carried by Bundo Kanduang from their head to the face. Afterwards they have hand shaking, it is signify that they have already forgiven each others to greet the Ramadhan.
Then the ceremony will be continued by praying magrib together in the mosque. They do dzikir together while waiting for Isya. After they Finish pray Isya, they are listen for the Ustadz’s speech. At last they pray their the first taraweh , and then do tadarusan there.
